NYFW: Sips & Snacks at Monarch Rooftop

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

new york Rooftop views at monarch  New York City boasts some pretty stunning rooftop venues. An evening out on a rooftop terrace with a drink in hand is a must when you're in the city and the weather is nice. I lived in NYC for a bit, and my favorite rooftops quickly became ones that offered up-close views of some of the most iconic buildings in the NYC skyline — if you're going to do a rooftop outing, might as well do it right. While in NYC for fashion week, I got the chance to meetup for drinks at Monarch Rooftop with some other amazing influencers and the experience was incredible. We were given our own space right on the edge of the terrace with a perfect view of the Empire State building which was lit up in red, white, and blue in honor of Sept. 11th. I totally recommend snagging a reservation if you plan to stop by — the whole venue is gorgeous, but being right on the edge made the view even more breathtaking. great food & great friends  This venue is seriously gorgeous! It was the perfect place to spend an evening hanging out with some great blogger…

Vegas Retail Therapy at Downtown Summerlin

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Downtown Summerlin shopping Vegas boasts some of the best shopping venues in the US, but not all the prime shopping destinations are located on the strip. I popped into Downtown Summerlin for a little retail therapy — and to find an adorable outfit — before our weekend out in Vegas. The area is absolutely gorgeous, with sidewalks to stroll, a great roundup of shops, and plenty of options to grab a little treat. They have just about all of my favorite stores — plus a few new ones which don't have a Denver location that I got to explore.   A few tips for a successful Vegas shopping trip 1 GO FOR THE WOW PIECE If there's any place that can push you out of your comfort zone and into something more exciting, it's Vegas. Don't be afraid to try new pieces that you might not normally think would work. Look for your "wow" piece — that piece that makes you feel gorgeous, fits perfectly, and is maybe a little unique or a little more bold than your usual go-to style. 2 KEEP IT COOL Vegas offers some serious sunshine which means you'll probably be looking for pieces that keep you cool or offer some great sun protection —…

A Romantic Weekend in Boulder // St Julien Hotel & Spa

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Anniversary Weekend at the St Julien M y idea of the perfect romantic weekend is a getaway that feels remote and quiet, but is filled with amazing food, a full spa day, and a gorgeous patio to sip wine on and enjoy the weather. The hubs and I are huge fans of any sort of patio happy hour and love to be pampered with a spa day. You may remember when the Jill's - the lobby restaurant - kindly hosted my blogger babe C.J. and I for a 4-course vegan dinner which we shared via stories on Instagram. The food was ah-mazing, and the lobby was absolutely gorgeous. Rich and I decided our anniversary getaway would be a weekend trip around Denver so we could take a relaxing drive and not have to deal with flights. We looked into a couple places, but then the St. Julien came to mind as the perfect spot - and it was. The Dining W e kicked off the weekend with a late lunch at Jill's which was absolutely amazing for the second time. They had so many amazing gluten free options which was amazing since many spots that offer gluten-free still do it in a way…

The Power of Female Friendship

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Why are female friendships so hard? Supporting other women can be difficult. It's not our fault, from an early age we are trained to think being strong means going at it alone and our culture teaches us to be a little competitive towards other women. Whether it's the fact that Wonder Woman is a party of one, that every "girl squad" in any story throughout our childhood had one queen bee and a handful of obedient minions, or that internal motivation we seem to have to be the best, the prettiest, or the happiest girl in the room.  “Abandon the cultural myth that all female friendships must be bitchy, toxic, or competitive. This myth is like heels and purses — pretty but designed to slow women down.” ― Roxane Gay What's behind this? From a psychological perspective, an attractive, strong, and independent woman seems like she doesn't need the support of other women. Because of this, she is also likely not to invest in other "less strong" women. This means when a woman tries to promote herself or distinguish herself from others, she often seems like a "threat" and receives hostility from other women. She's not considered confident, strong, or willing…

Tips for an Escape that Helps You Truly Recharge // Luxury Weekend Vail Getaway

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

A Getaway that Recharges Before we get to the Vail getaway details, first we need to re-shape the way you think about a getaway and talk about some tips for how to use your getaway to truly refresh. The goal of a getaway isn't just a gorgeous vacation, its taking a step back from  your daily life and schedule to give yourself space to be open to new experiences and ideas. An overly planned and perfectly scheduled vacation is rarely relaxing, but a getaway with minimal structure can be just what you need to shake off your stress and hit the reset button on your mindset. Take time to disconnect Use your getaway to unplug as much as possible. Whether this just means leaving your laptop at home or getting in just a little less screen time, take time to step back from your regular schedule and daily demands. This is especially important if you have a tendency to work or "catch up" on things over your weekend instead of relax. Don't underestimate the benefit of some screen free time. It can be a challenge to detach, but it's so worth it. Put in quality time A getaway is the…

Breckenridge: Things to Do This Weekend

640 1024 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Day Trip to Breck I was raised in a small town, but it didn't take long for me to call the city home. One of the things I love most about living in Denver is being able to take a scenic day trip to a nearby mountain town. This trip to Breck was initially part of a collaboration with Thrillist all about fall day trips to take around Denver, but I grabbed a couple blogger friends and connected with a couple amazing local brands so that I'd be able to share a little more in-depth look at some of the amazing places this town has to offer. We grabbed a car and headed off on our day trip, making sure to drive through Loveland Pass for some gorgeous mountain views. breckenridge things to do this weekend JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Reactivate it to view this content. VINTAGE SWEET & CHIC  First on the list was doing a little shopping at some of the local spots. We popped into Vintage Sweet & Chic and I was blown away by the aesthetic and pieces I found. From luxury vintage furs, to fun and fashion forward fall essentials, to gorgeous accessories…

Sweet Home Colorado // 20+ Must Visit Denver Spots

640 1024 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Life in the Mile High There's so much I didn't know about Denver before calling it home. If you're transplant (like me) or just passing through, you might be still discovering some of Denver's hidden gems. If you've never been to the Mile High, but have always wondered what it's like to live here, stay tuned. I'm dishing on my favorite Denver spots. Some I've discovered by chance, some I've finally got around to visiting after multiple recommendations and they've quickly become favorites.     Before we dive into the specifics, let's chat about some general things to know about Denver. First, it's super creatively inspired. From the street art and uniquely remodeled industrial buildings, to activities like fairs and festivals, Denver's got its own special creative flair. Yes, the weather is as amazing (and also unpredictable) as you've probably heard. Most restaurants & bars have a patio, usually complete with garage-door windows that slide up to make the whole space open to the outside.     Bikes and puppies are pretty popular. With the weather so nice, many people don't mind biking their commute. And we definitely love our dogs. It's not uncommon to see a pooch walking around…

Came to Vegas to Chill // Minus 5 Ice Bar

640 1024 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Winter is here. I've never been a huge fan of the cold, but something about a hot summer's day has me doing this thing  I do every year where I start wishing it was cold out so I could bundle up and snuggle by the fire with some hot tea. That winter wish came true when I was invited to Minus 5 Ice Bar in Vegas last week. Well...sans warm fire and hot tea, but plus tequila...so I'd call it a win. Of course, every year in the middle of the Denver winter, I start to realize I was crazy for wishing winter upon myself, that's where Minus 5 is the perfect balance. You get the icy winter experience of living like Elsa in an ice castle (with cocktails) for a few hours, then you get to go back out to the blistering Vegas heat - all in one day.  The Minus 5 Experience If you haven't figured it out from the photos, Minus 5 is a bar made completely out of ice. From the walls to the benches and chairs you sit on to the glass your drink is served in. The name comes from the fact that the…

Meet me in Vegas // Kendra Scott Color Bar

1024 619 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Vegas is the land of shopportinity. If that's an unfamiliar term for you, it means the shopping is ah-mazing. I don't have to go very far to find some of my favorite brands, many of which have multiple stores on the strip for even more convenience. I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't make a visit to the iconic Fashion Show Mall. If you haven't been, the mall hosts weekend fashion shows, which is where the name comes from. While my trip was too packed to catch a show I did purchase a new handbag and was invited to Kendra Scott to experience the Color Bar. Kendra Scott Color Bar The Color Bar lets you design your own pieces. You choose your setting, stone, and metal. The combinations are truly endless, and for a color-lover like me it's an accessory paradise. I love that I got to play around with different combinations of my favorite styles, favorite colors, and even I'm not usually drawn to. The whole process definitely helped me create a [long] wish list for KS pieces that I can't wait to create.  I tried all kinds of combinations, but fell in love with the rose…

5 tips for your first time in Vegas

1080 836 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Before this last weekend, I was a Vegas virgin, mostly because I just never had a reason to go visit. This news was crazy to my husband, who grew up going pretty often since he lived only a few hours away. We spontaneously booked this trip after a few glasses of wine and I wasn't too sure what I was in store for. All I had heard about time spent in Vegas was stories of craziness and shenanigans, which often included drinking too much or loosing stuff. I geared up for a wild ride, just in case. Turns out, Vegas is one of my hands down new favorite places to visit and with the flight from Denver under 2 hours, I see us going at least once every year.  I'm sharing my best tips for your first time in Vegas plus some details about this outfit. Tips for your first time in Vegas TIP 01: Take a cab if you're walking more than two buildings away. In Vegas, things are [a lot] further away than they look. When you're looking out the window of the 31st floor of the Bellagio, things don't look very far away because you're so high…

My Tan by Bronzed Denver + Beach Essentials

1000 667 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Going to Hawaii in April means my winter skin needed a little jump start to get golden brown. I was a pretty into fake-baking in college, but I've since seen the light and have vowed never to enter a tanning bed again. I needed to find a new way to be beautifully golden. I'd had spray tans in the past...via the machine where you need to get your timing right or else you really do end up like Ross from friends. No joke. Since this tan was for my wedding, I didn't want to risk it. I decided to skip the automation get my sunless glow at Bronzed Denver and am so glad I did.  Aloha Beaches!  I'll share my top 3 beach essentials and then tell you all about my beautiful sunless tan from Bronzed Denver Beach Essentials Not going to lie, in the weeks leading up to my Hawaii Wedding / Honeymoon, I went a little overboard buying beach accessories. I was just too excited and there were too many cute things. You can see my full honeymoon packing list HERE, but let's hit the highlights and talk about my top 3 essentials for a day on the beach #1  Eat, Beach, Sleep…

Summer Beachy Date Night Look

1000 667 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Aloha.  Spending a week on Oahu's North Shore has been amazing. Soaking up sun, watching surfers, sipping mai tais, and eating delicious fresh seafood. As a southern girl at heart, I'm used to getting a little dressed up to go to dinner, even if it is a relaxed beachy spot. Here's one of my favorite dinner looks from our trip to Oahu. We stayed at the Turtle Bay Resort for our wedding and one of our favorite dinner spots was Roy's Beach House, which is a beautiful upscale casual venue right on the beach. So here's a little more about my favorite dinner spot on Oahu's North Shore plus a little more about this outfit and how to shop it.   Roy's Beach House The restaurant is open-air and a perfect place to watch the sunset over the ocean. When I say it was our favorite, I'm not kidding: we went 3 nights in a row. They had a range of amazing dishes and a perfect view not to mention the North Shore has a fairly remote feel compared to city life.  Most all of the upscale dining spots are on-resort unless you drive 15 min to Haleiwa where there are a…

Beach Vacay Ready: Honeymoon Packing List

1024 683 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Ah packing. I somehow can get away with wearing a shirt three days in a row, but when it comes to packing for vacation I turn into some sort of professional packer and I'm like, "I'm probably going to change at least 3-4 times a day, and I'm there for 10 days so I need to pack at least 35 outfits and 7 pairs of shoes." This trip, I tried to make a honeymoon packing list so that I wasn't just throwing everything remotely beachy that I own into my suitcase.  Since I took the time to make a list, I decided I would share it with you in case you're also a pack-everything kinda girl. Most of these pieces are hitting the blog via individual outfits pretty soon, but this list includes a lot of my beach vacay fashion must-haves. The links are all shoppable so if you've got a beach vacation coming up, you can snag a few of my favorites before you hit the waves.   OUTFITS First things first, here are my picks for some fun & flowy beach outfits. I picked a range of tops and bottoms that can easily be mixed and matched to create…
