Peplum tops are fun, and feminine with a little bit of flair. What is a peplum top you ask? If you're unfamiliar, here's a little definition to spare you my roundabout explanation.
pep·lum: a short full flounce or an extension of a garment below the waist, covering the hips.
Gone are the days when peplum tops could be worn by only the smallest of waists. Peplum tops celebrate waist-to-hip curves, and can work for all body types.
How to wear a peplum top
Whatever you wear below the pouf should be streamlined, to avoid a victorian-era silhouette.
TIP: Pair with a pencil skirt or skinny jeans.
If you're pairing with a skirt, the most flattering choice is one that hits you at the knee or just below. Pairing with skinny jeans is the best way to modernize the peplum look, and is especially flattering for shorter legs.
Peplum tops feel very feminine and ladylike, which is fun to embrace and dress up with classics like pumps, pearls, and a red lip. If you're into less girly style or want to keep it more casual for day-to-day look, it can be good to add a little contrast to the feminine feel vibe via your accessories. Add a metallic clutch or a geometric necklace for a more balanced look.
Peplum & Pearls
What I love most about this peplum top besides the soft lavender color is the sweetheart neckline. This strapless top works well with a necklace that is elegant but not too minimal. I chose a long string of faux pearls to double up as a subtle statement piece. I love this look because it's not too bold or to big of a piece but it also adds a touch of elegance.
This necklace is just one of the many pearl embellished accessories I've invested in recently. My other no. 01 favorite right now is this pair of pearl slides. You'll definitely see more pearls hitting the blog as we move into fall.
The peplum top is from TOBI and in addition to the lavender, it also comes in black and white. And..it's on sale (we're talking $13-18 vs $46 originally). I also slipped on my favorite pair of jeans, which I got from Stitch Fix in a box from last fall (see more about them in this post...but be warned that's the first outfit post I ever wrote).
The brand is Lila Ryan and they fit like no other pair of jeans has fit me before. They're stretchy but not too stretchy, thin but not too thin, and the only pair of otherwise regular looking jeans that I could rave about for an hour. The only other place I've found them besides Stitch fix is on the Shoptiques site.
My peep toe booties were a Nordstrom Sale steal. They're actually from Tom's and I must have been living under a rock because I didn't even know they made booties. Currently on sale for under $75 they go back up to $109 after the sale ends. I really love the matte suede, diamond cut-outs, and zipper tassels.
P.S. The Nordstrom Anniversary sale ends Sunday, and if you haven't shopped it yet you can learn all about it HERE, or see just some of the things I bought HERE. If you're too lazy to click on those posts, all you need to know is that its new fall pieces that are on sale and you can shop the best of it HERE.
