Today I'm so excited to finally be able to share my re-designed office space with you!
This space has been in the works since we first started designing our house and it was such a fun process to put together ideas and design plans as it was getting built. If you follow my instagram, you know that we officially moved in at the very beginning of June. It's taken me a couple months of planning, ordering, waiting on shipping, and working on the space to make my design a reality.
Office Essentials
The first step to any successful interior design project is having some clearly defined goals for the space. Design & decor can be gorgeous, but if it isn't functional, you won't get the most out of the space, which can also lead to you feeling disorganized. My office essentials checklist:
01. Relaxing Workspace
This was number one on my list, because if I don't have a space I feel relaxed in it means I can't be very productive. I've always been a fan of Japanese-style Chabudai (or low, floor) tables. My sophisticated reason for this is that I love the feeling of being grounded and the comfort of floor cushions and pillows, but my primary reason is that I've always sat criss-cross or with one leg up even in chairs since I was a kid (my mom was constantly telling me to "Get [my] feet down"). It's always been what's most comfortable for me and helps me get my best focus on.Â
02. Storage + more storage
You can never have too many storage options. I not only needed an elegant place to store all my camera equipment, but I also needed a place to organize all the different products I have in the quene to shoot. This includes everything from beauty products to jewelry to apparel and everything in between.Â
03. Fun + Feminine Aesthetic
After a functional workspace & storage options, my next essential was for my office to include design elements that made the space feel truly mine. Being married and sharing a bedroom means I needed to give all my pink, girly things their own home and create a space that was fully feminine.
 Workspace Design
I chose a nesting cocktail table in burnt oak to serve as my desk and added large floor cushion, Â a couple hot pink pillows (here), and a cream chenille throw blanket. My desk faces our front window, which means I get great light. I also use a two-desk setup to maximize my productivity. My main desk is used for all my technology: blogging, photo editing, and other digital-based work. My side desk is a no-electronics allowed zone that I use to brainstorm and design just in my sketchbook. I first got this tip from the book, 'Steal Like an Artist', and it's been a total game changer.
As far as office essentials, I fell in love with brass for metallic accents because I really liked the fact that it didn't feel too bright and polished but helped give the space a sophisticated look. My desk lamp, pen & pencil organizer, round wastebasket all have the same muted gold finish.
Shoot Planning + Content Creation Function
When I'm prepping for shoots, I like to put together my complete outfit - including accessories - so I don't forget anything. I found this clothing rack at Ikea for $10, which I use to organize new purchases & things brand's have sent and style outfits for posts so that the pieces don't get lost in my closet. My top three favorite pieces on my clothing rack right now are this dress, this jumpsuit, and these leggings.
I also have a floor mirror that I use to try on different looks while I'm styling an outfit. I love it because it's self-supporting. It originally came in black, but I painted it with a Pearl Spray Paint so that it would fit my design plan a little bit better. I also have a floating shelf that I use to display some of my handbags and a little artificial peony arrangement, which is the first fake flower arrangement I've ever bought. I thought it was so cheesy at first, but now I'm pretty sold.Â
I also have a shelf in my wardrobe dedicated to jewelry & accessory storage. I use a 3-tier jewelry storage tray, a ring holder, and some 3m hooks to keep my jewelry organized and a couple cute mugs and jars to store things like lipstick and perfume rollers.
 Feminine Design Essentials
For my color palette, I decided on  black & white with pops of hot pink. I created two accent walls using some temporary peal & stick wall paper. It was SO easy to put up and is a simple process if I ever want to re-design in the future. Not only that but the brand I used was so much cheaper than regular wall paper would have been. The smaller wall with the window and clothing rack has the speckled dot pattern and the back wall behind my desk has vertical black and white stripes (the pattern is called 'Suit & Tie' and you can get it HERE)
I went with some bright pink curtains to serve as my pops of pink in addition to my floor pillows. A floral bucket chair was the obvious choice as a statement piece and little place to read my fashion magazines. I snagged mine from Wayfair for just over $100, you can get it HERE. I'm absolutely in love with the floral pattern, and added a metallic stripe accent pillow for a pop of gold. I paired it with a round end table that serves as a perfect place to set my tea and also display my favorite magazines.
When I want some mood lighting instead of my full overhead can lights, I have some lanterns with flicker candles that are on a timer that sit on the floor across from my desk. I also added some lights over the wardrobe that are dimmable but give off a soft glow that is still bright enough to work under. Some finishing touches included a faux sheepskin rug and my favorite pink magnolia candle.
The Finished Space
I'm so happy with how the space turned out. It's the exact mix of function and elegance I needed and gives my blog a place to call home.
