I think it's time for a fresh start
I love the freshness of the new year. So much potential for new opportunities and a revamped purpose. Resolutions have never come naturally to me, so this year I'm not making them. In the past I always broke out a notepad and built an overly aspirational checklist about what I wanted my life to look like over the next year, but I never stuck to it.
I've finally realized that it was because I was making a list of aspirational goals, not a list of actual things I wanted to do. This year, I'm adopting a tradition from my blogger bestie and creating a theme for my year.
A theme is a general direction where you want to see your progress or life move towards. You can make smaller monthly and weekly goals that tie into the overall theme, but those goals aren't set in stone like a resolution and can be created and adapted when you grow and change as the year progresses.
This years theme:
My theme has two parts, the first part is that I want to adopt a full-on positive mindset. I like to think that I usually find the good in things or can look for a positive outcome, but I want to make intentional positivity more of a focus both in my personal life and in my work.
The second part is a focus on productivity. As a bit of a nerd, I can sit around all day soaking up information or reading books. The thing about this is that it feels super productive because I'm learning a lot or acquiring new skills. But the truth is that as an entrepreneur there comes a point where you just have to dig in and actually start doing the work. It's not possible to learn everything you need to know before you start, whether it be a month-long project or a smaller task.
This year I need to be better about not only "doing the work" but also doing the work that matters most. For me, this means getting better at setting priorities and staying true to them instead of letting my day get tugged from one task to another based on what email hits my inbox or what I "feel" like doing.
My goal with this theme is to set some monthly mantras to help me make some positive changes to align with my theme as well as create some practical monthly and weekly goals for how I can take actual steps towards accomplishing this overarching goal. Hopefully you all as my wonderful followers will hold me accountable through the content I create and the things I'm sharing both here and on social.
An inspirational excerpt...from a book I'll never write
May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams,
with setting fresh goals and crushing them,
and with a new set of intentions
May you be kind to yourself,
find your strongest confidence
and stop saying yes to shit you hate
May you surround yourself with people who get it,
find positivity in every situation,
and trust the magic of beginnings
