the design
When designing this space, I focused first on function — trying to give my guests everything they might need for a cozy stay and comfortable night's sleep.
This meant thinking about how to include all the essentials as well as making them easy to find. For the aesthetic look and feel of the space, I wanted the room to be neutral with a soothing vibe, but not lacking in texture and personality.
I added options at every turn so that my guests could easily adjust the space to their preferences.
From making up the bed with multiple blanket and pillow support options, to a variety of lighting with smart features, to aromatherapy and easy-to-access tech accessories — this space has almost every sleep preference covered.

diy barn doors
While optimizing each area of this room, I wanted to create as much space as possible. I eliminated the door swing with space-saving modern barn doors. These doors add a textural element and interest to the room and make closet access much easier.
I'll have a full tutorial coming up next for how to build these modern barn doors (well under $200) with fluted trim texture next! Follow along on instagram to see the process and my secret hack for getting this texture easily.
diy placemat headboard
Can you believe this diy headboard is made out of placemats?? I built a simple frame and glued on some jute placemats in an alternating pattern to give the headboard a textured weave effect.
I added DIY jute spirals to the corners for a buttoned look and to cover the rounded corner edges.
I wrapped the placemats around on the sides and secured with more hot glue and a staple gun for a finished upholstered look.
You can watch the full DIY process + tutorial on Instagram.
