Who doesn't want a chic space that looks perfectly polished? A sophisticated vibe doesn’t have to be expensive. Even if your space is fully furnished by Target, Ikea, or thrift store finds, attention to the right details can give your decor an expensive and chic look while staying way inside your budget. How do you get a luxury look for less? Here are some simple tweaks to help you polish your decor and elevate your space: 01.  Featured Florals Fresh flowers elevate any space and add an elegant and sophisticated vibe. Add a fresh arrangement to your favorite vase when you’re expecting guests or choose a few gorgeous single flowers to feature throughout your space. Fresh flowers can get pricey, especially if you want a featured floral in your space all the time. You can opt for grocery store bouquets to DIY your own arrangement instead of a pricey professional version. You can also grab some gorgeous faux florals. Just make sure you’re buying quality products that look real vs the cheaper alternative that can look super fake and cheesy. 816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

The perfect gift Gifting is an art. And you might agree, but still find yourself scrambling to find the perfect gift, whether it's because you're totally short on ideas...or just really short on time. Gifting is something that almost no one is sunning at every time they find themselves wrapping up a present. What kind of giver are you? From thoughtful to funny, last minute to well-planned, everyone has their own kind of gifting style. Even if you love giving gifts or consider yourself great at it, sometimes you can find yourself drawing a blank as to what to give. Today I'm breaking down the art of gifting so that you will never be lost or rushing to find a last minute present. You've probably heard the saying, "The manner of giving is worth more than the gift." While it's probably a balance - the gift itself should have some purpose or intention behind it - in a sense, this saying is cliche but absolutely true. The art of gifting isn't just picking out an amazing gift, its creating an experience that conveys a feeling. How do you want your recipient to feel? This is the one and only starting…

But you already know how great creativity feels, you're here to find out how to get more of it. "The desire to create is one deepest yearnings of the human soul." - Dieter Uchtdorf   Ever feel like if you just had the recipe for the perfect cocktail of creativity you'd have the answer? Creativity can be hard to nail down, but here are some essential elements we know are part of the equation: The curiosity to explore and ask questions, mixed with the humility to know that you don't know everything, added into some mindfulness to be able to think about how to think, plus a little courage to take risks without fear of failure and question the way things are, and then a bit of action because your creativity can't be turned into innovation unless you do the work.   01. Suit up Beaches // 5 Perfect Summer Swimwear Trends

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Sunshine on my mind. D ays are getting longer, temps are heating up and it's time to snag a perfect summer swimsuit. We're diving into some of my favorite swimwear trends to help you decide on the perfect suit. Summer swimwear trends have kind of become a tradition around here, since nothing puts you in a summer mood like suit shopping. But first, we can't talk about swimwear without talking about self-confidence. The truth is, the beginning of summer might bring up some negative feelings for you if you're feeling pressure to "loose the weight" or get your body "bikini ready." So if that's you, here are 5 things you need to hear before we can decide on what suit you're going to rock.   5 tips for bikini ready self-confidence: 1. Stop comparing. Stay focused on you. Comparison is bullshit. And it totally sucks. But it's also super easy to get sucked into. Sometimes avoiding comparison means doing it intentionally. When your mind starts wishing you had her ____, take that thought captive and delete it before you let it get to you. Confidence is not, "They will like me," it's "I'll be fine if they don't" 2. Let yourself…

What the Ugly Duckling Can Teach Us About Modern Womanhood ?

816 1056 Kaylee // The Girl From Oklahoma

a guest post by Kaylee Jones We all know the story of the ugly duckling. He grew up an outcast, because he looked different from his peers. However, after seeing his reflection in a pond one day, he realized he had never been a duckling at all; he was a swan who’d grown up judged by a duck standard of beauty. The story has been used as a parable to teach individuals to accept their own unique beauty, and by extension - themselves, in a world filled with subjective standards for both. I was your stereotypical ugly duckling. I had knobby knees, a bad haircut, and a wardrobe full of 90’s clothes. I grew up in a time before social media and makeup tutorials helped guide young girls through their awkward pubescent years.   My beauty routine consisted of Bon Bon lip glosses that looked like edible optical illusions, hair clips shaped like butterflies, and body glitter as an everyday accessory. There was no contouring. Highlighter was a utensil I used to study, not to accentuate my cheekbones. I crimped my hair, and I was proud. Feeling nostalgic? Stop. This wasn’t the theme of a party; it was our…

What Kind of Yoga is Right for My Body?

816 1056 Nicole Morley // Nicole in Colour

A guest post by Nicole Morley Last summer I went to my first Goat Yoga class. Yes Goat Yoga, you've heard of it right? It's where you go to a farm and the yoga teacher tries in vain to teach a gentle flow to distract you from the goats and sheep that just want to be your friend. I've been to yoga classes at breweries and wineries, I've done Yoga Nidra or sleeping yoga, I've taken Yin, Power, Hot, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and so many in between. There are a lot of different kinds of yoga now-a-days and it can be overwhelming if you're just starting out. How are you supposed to know what's right for your body and your fitness level? Let's start with an assessment. Do you feel really stressed out on a daily basis? Maybe you have super tight hamstrings and shoulders? Are you the kind of person that wants to sweat it out and be challenged, or are you more of a lay-on-my-mat-and-call-it-yoga type?      Picking the right yoga class is all about deciding what you need the most, and recognizing that what you need is going to change from day to day. Which of…

Vanilla Latte At-home (How-To)

1024 576 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

I'm whipping up my daily dairy-free latte to show you how easy it is. You know, for when you don't want to put on pants to go to the coffee shop. You can snag my essentials via the links below - I absolutely recommend the milk frother! ▷ MILK FROTHER*: http://amzn.to/2EICwsj▷ SIMPLY ORGANIC VANILLA*: http://amzn.to/2BKaBcU▷ RIPPLE HALF & HALF: http://bit.ly/2F25ree(*Affiliate links) (*Affiliate links)  I love my morning latte, but sometimes it's way easier to make at home than deal with the hassle of putting on pants. I add a little vanilla and a cinnamon sugar sprinkle to my latte, which gives it just the perfect flavor without overpowering sweetness. The plant-based half & half I use is naturally a tiny bit sweet, which I find to be just perfect and not in need of sugar or syrup. If you light yours lighter or sweeter, feel free to adjust to taste. You can also control how strong the latte is based on how you brew your french press coffee. I usually make a pretty stout pot, which works well in my recipe. You can also use your espresso machiene if you've got one, but I wouldn't recommend a Keurig for this…

The Art of Self-Surrender

1024 683 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

The Art of Surrender. When I first think of the word "surrender" I associate it with defeat. With giving up, letting go, or giving in. But if you think about it a little longer, you begin to see the immense beauty in it. Surrender is a choice to let go. And not only a choice to let go, but a decision to let go of control. It's a choice to stop fighting and just let things be. Whether that means anxiety, stress, or thoughts and feelings you're holding onto.  It's hard not to be in control. Especially if you're a driven person or have a clear vision of what you want your life to look like. Accepting that we aren't fully in control is hard. (believe me, as a driven person, I really do know the struggle)   We often ignore our lack of power, and pretend we are in control. Which when you think about it, is the cause of most of our stress. We worry things won't go our way, and spend time working hard to make sure they do. Surrender helps you let that go. Surrender is it's own form of freedom. It's making the choice to…

Keep the Love Coming // Sweet Rose Sugar & Salt Scrub DIY

1024 625 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Keep the love coming after Valentine's Day with a little DIY spa. If you tuned into my 4 steps to self-love post, you know that while good self care isn't all there is to self-love, it can still play a really huge part . This Sweet Rose Sugar & Salt scrub is the perfect way to do that. Plus, it's a great way to repurpose and use up some of your roses from Vday before they shrivel up.  What You'll Need  Rose Scrub DIY Supplies Save Print 1 Cup Sugar (I used white this time, but prefer coconut sugar) 1/2 Cup Coarse Pink Himalayan Salt 1/4 Cup Almond Oil 12 Fresh Rose petals (about 1 rose) 5-10 drops rose essential oil Small Jar with lid Food Processor   TIME: 5 min STEP 01. Measure out sugar, salt, and almond oil into the food processor. I used regular white sugar and coarse pink sea salt - the kind that comes in a jar that you would put into a salt grinder. This gives the scrub a really good texture since when you run it through the food processor, the coarse grains grind up a little but are still big enough to exfoliate really well.…

4 Essential Steps to Self-Love

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

What does it mean to love yourself? Self-love is often used as a buzzword. We always hear quotes like "You can't truly love someone else unless you love yourself first." It's a concept that seems pretty big picture, its hard to understand how it fits into our everyday lives so we chalk it up to making time for bubble baths or making time for outward self-care, but its so much deeper than that. It's easy to understand why, Self love is f*cking hard. And it's not totally our fault, we live in a society where a message of "you're not enough" is projected more loudly and frequently than any voice that might whisper to tell us we're enough or absolutely worthy of love. No, I'm not a socially critical hippie, its an actual phenomenon.  Need some proof that we live in the opposite of a culture of self-love? Did you know about only 4% of women would call themselves beautiful?(1) That young girls are more afraid of being fat than getting cancer or loosing both their parents?(2) Or that self-esteem based on external sources is linked to major mental health consequences? (3) Those studies are devastating. It's not that we…

The Power of Female Friendship

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Why are female friendships so hard? Supporting other women can be difficult. It's not our fault, from an early age we are trained to think being strong means going at it alone and our culture teaches us to be a little competitive towards other women. Whether it's the fact that Wonder Woman is a party of one, that every "girl squad" in any story throughout our childhood had one queen bee and a handful of obedient minions, or that internal motivation we seem to have to be the best, the prettiest, or the happiest girl in the room.  “Abandon the cultural myth that all female friendships must be bitchy, toxic, or competitive. This myth is like heels and purses — pretty but designed to slow women down.” ― Roxane Gay What's behind this? From a psychological perspective, an attractive, strong, and independent woman seems like she doesn't need the support of other women. Because of this, she is also likely not to invest in other "less strong" women. This means when a woman tries to promote herself or distinguish herself from others, she often seems like a "threat" and receives hostility from other women. She's not considered confident, strong, or willing…

Tequila = True Love // Valentine’s Day Martini

1024 709 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

"Always make time for the things you love, like drinking tequila" - Cara I'm a firm believer that all things are possible with tequila and lipstick. If I was stranded on an island and could only have one alcohol for the rest of my life, it would be tequila – first of all, because life on a beach is not complete without a margarita and second of all because Tequila is simply the sh*t. Tequila Perks: Tequila is my drink of choice, but it's also much better for you than most other liquors. Now, tequila is by no means a "health food" but relative to other boozy concoctions, tequila has some perks.  Here are the top two most important ones: 1. It's a low calorie alcohol Tequila is made of agave, which means it's made up of agavins. Why are these better? These are complex sugars that your body doesn't digest or store unlike other forms of sugar and they won't spike your blood sugar. Here's the non-scientific version: This means your body doesn't process tequila as sugar like it does other liquors which means less calories. 2. Less of a hangover  Now we aren't referring to the sh*tty watered…
