Fall Home Refresh – Making a welcoming first impression

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

A fresh fall space Fall is a transition time — as we settle a little from the busyness of summer & begin to spend more time inside, it's time to cozy up and prep our space for a new season. Whether that means finding functional pieces to help create an organized space or adding gorgeous accents & decor elements for a festive autumn vibe. I'm giving my entryway and living room a little fall refresh with organizational and decorative elements to make a welcoming first impression. I added a couple pieces of furniture, plus some decor to make both rooms feel fresh and cozy.   the Entryway My entryway needed some updates to help make a welcoming first impression. As a small space, it needs to be both functional and gorgeous — and to achieve that balance, I needed a new furniture layout and some decor. I added a desk to replace my lime tree (who moved upstairs) and the small blue side table. The writing desk adds noticeable character as soon as you walk in. It gave me a larger surface for some welcoming decor, with a couple drawers and plenty of space to add a few baskets underneath for storage. This floor-level storage is…

NYFW: Sips & Snacks at Monarch Rooftop

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

new york Rooftop views at monarch  New York City boasts some pretty stunning rooftop venues. An evening out on a rooftop terrace with a drink in hand is a must when you're in the city and the weather is nice. I lived in NYC for a bit, and my favorite rooftops quickly became ones that offered up-close views of some of the most iconic buildings in the NYC skyline — if you're going to do a rooftop outing, might as well do it right. While in NYC for fashion week, I got the chance to meetup for drinks at Monarch Rooftop with some other amazing influencers and the experience was incredible. We were given our own space right on the edge of the terrace with a perfect view of the Empire State building which was lit up in red, white, and blue in honor of Sept. 11th. I totally recommend snagging a reservation if you plan to stop by — the whole venue is gorgeous, but being right on the edge made the view even more breathtaking. great food & great friends  This venue is seriously gorgeous! It was the perfect place to spend an evening hanging out with some great blogger…

fall fashion at Larimer Square One of my favorite spots in Denver is Larimer Square. I remember when I first moved here and stumbled upon this iconic Denver block — I knew it would be one of my go-to's. From grabbing dinner at Ocean Prime or drinks at one of the many adorable spots, to shopping some of my favorite local shops like Hailee Grace and AILLEA, I love stopping by for an outing under the adorable string lights. I stopped in to style a whole outfit using just pieces from Larimer Square retailers to show off some of my favorites. There are seriously so many adorable shops! Today we're talking outfit details, plus I'm sharing a little about the Runway Show they have coming up at the end of this month which we can attend together! Mark your calendar for Sept 27th so we can meet up, then check out my Larimer Square #OOTD.   larimer square Fall Fashion Show 2018! Creating a cozy chic Outdoor Living Space Outdoor living is made better when you have a cozy space that feels welcoming and inviting. I've already shared my 5 quick tips for making your Front Porch Feel Cozy, but today I'm giving you a peek inside — or rather outside — to reveal my newly-designed patio. Whether you have a large backyard where you need to carve out a place that feels cozy and intimate or a small patio space that could use some added design elements, creating a welcoming outdoor space is the key to elevating your outdoor living and designing an additional space for your home that you'll find yourself enjoying and entertaining in.   Psst...Shop my patio by clicking on the icons in the photo below. The best possible space has a true balance of both — it looks gorgeous and has all the practical elements you need to be able to live in it comfortably. For this space, that meant…

Mono-Dramatic: Styling just one hue head to toe

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

styling a Monochromatic look As a color and prints enthusiast, I'm always flaunting bright colors, a fun pattern, or a combination of the two. Usually, people either love it, or give me a response like, "That looks so great on you, but I could never pull it off." Which I get — when you wear an eye-catching look, in some ways you are asking for attention and if you'd rather blend in a little or just aren't feeling confident that day, then a loud outfit might not be your jam. But that doesn't mean you cant still wear fun colors in a chic and more streamlined way. The other day someone asked me, "Do you ever just wear one color?" A valid question in response to my personal style — And yes, I'm a huge fan of wearing just one color when it comes to monochromatic looks — a.k.a. the way to wear color in a less loud, more sleek look. The truth is you can still create a dynamic and dramatic look using just one color or hue. psst... if you have a Monochromatic look to share, check out the Style Challenge at the bottom of this post to get a shoutout…

What I love about face masks + my Alba Botanica fave

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

creating a skincare ritual I'm skincare obsessed — but you probably already know that. The secret to great skincare is not only finding the right products, but taking the time to build a routine that you can stay consistent with. That second part took me a while. I was a makeup-wipe-and-done kind of girl — I dreaded investing time everyday into a multi-step skincare routine. But that all changed when I stopped looking at it like a chore and started setting aside time to create a skincare 𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 vs a boring 𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦. A routine can feel boring and like the same old step-by-step everyday, but creating a ritual involves your wellbeing in the process. Instead of just going through my step 1, then step 2, then step 3, I take time to check in with myself and make my ritual about self-love. Whether that is helping my brain wind-down through a little facial massage as I apply my moisturizer, or listing some of the things I love about my body as I wash my face, I use my skincare time every evening to wind down mentally from the day and focus on boosting confidence and loving myself. There is something about standing in…

How to build your wardrobe in 5 Steps + classic pieces every girl needs

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

building your perfect wardrobe Contrary to what our favorite fashion makeover shows tell us, a great wardrobe isn't built in a day. While you can totally re-build your wardrobe in a pinch if it's super outdated, a great wardrobe takes time to accumulate and tweak to fit your personal style.  Now, we already dove deep into finding your personal style with these 10 questions, but once you've really defined you style, your closet is probably going to need a little — or a lot — of work to reflect that. You might be right there with me in that mid-20's limbo where our college looks are beginning to feel a little like we've outgrown them, but we aren't totally sure how to build a big-girl wardrobe that doesn't feel, well, too old. Today we're diving into how to transition your wardrobe through your 20's — from your college years to your 30's and beyond by doing a little planning and purging. However, I do want to make one important distinction first. Is your wardrobe the same as your closet? I  say no. Your closet is the place where your clothes live. It's also the place we store a lot more than that: memories in the form of…

8 Ways to Transition your Fave Dress from Summer to Fall

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

time to transition It's time to break out those transition looks and start working our wardrobe from summer styles to fall fashion. We've talked transition looks before — they are seriously one of my favorite things to style since it requires a perfect blend of functional & fabulous to create an outfit that can be easily worn in warm temps and seamlessly transitioned to cool weather. While the two piece set is my favorite transition look this year, if I had to choose the most versatile transition piece — the dress would win hands down. It's the perfect place to start if you have no idea how to build a transition look and find yourself throwing on a hodge podge of things that are functional, but not totally chic.   What is a transition look? Is it cold, is it hot — what season is this? Transition looks are for those awkward times between seasons when the weather is all over the place and you aren't quite sure what to wear. Maybe you need to bundle up for the chilly morning and then by the time the afternoon rolls around you feel overheated. Transition outfits aim to solve this daily temperature fluctuation with…

Clothes that Empower — 10 Questions for Finding your Personal Style

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Fashion says "me too," style says "only me" How do you find your personal style? Defining your style is important because it allows you to communicate who you are to the world, just by what you choose to put on. A defined personal style lets you express yourself to others in a more-dimensional way since your style "introduces you before you even speak." But how do you define your style? It sounds so simple at first, but something as complex and beautiful as style can be hard to put words to — and even harder to dig in an define for yourself. Last week I wrote a post, Style Yourself Happy: How to use clothing to boost your mood — and you LOVED it. We examined the effect our clothing has on our confidence, mood, and even health, and even dove into some of the science that supports that. After that post, I got so many requests to do something similar and talk about how to define your personal style, so that is what we are here for today. Find your personal style Before I share my advice for finding and defining your style, we first have to talk about what personal style is not. It's not a limitation —…

How to Style Colored Curtains for a Luxe Look

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

A cozy pop of color If you’re a color & prints enthusiast like me, adding pops of color in your space is one of your go-to decorating tactics. It helps the space feel fun, interesting, and even whimsical. Even if you’re a color lover, bright pops of color can sometimes look like too much fun if not styled correctly. ❝ It can be a tough balance to style a pop of bold color in a way that still looks luxurious instead of overly playful.❞  If you want a fun color in your space, but still want it to look elegant – this curtain styling tip is just for you. First up, we have the before: this office has bright coral sheers hung against a black and white speckled dot wallpaper. While the black and white + pop of color are a good combo, the bold print with the bright coral hue can look pretty whimsical and is a little too bold to feel luxe   The solution? Break it up with a neutral – in this case, a creamy white. By hanging a second rod with floor-length white curtains in front of the coral sheers, it separates the pop of color & bold pattern by creating a neutral space between…

Style Yourself Happy: How to use clothing to boost your mood

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Can you dress yourself happy? Style is absolutely a tool for empowerment and today we're diving into how your clothing choices can affect your mood and why you should be intentional about them. Now, I'm a huge proponent of the idea that happiness is a choice and I don't believe that the material fact of the correct clothing is all it takes to make you happy, but there is something powerful about clothing choices when it comes to how we feel and view ourselves — and it's something we can all benefit from tapping into. I've been honored to be able to inspire so many women to be bolder with their style and find confidence through what they choose to wear. I've used colors and prints as my catalyst for empowerment through style, but there is a much deeper phenomenon going on when it comes to how the clothes we choose to wear affect our moods, overall confidence, and even health. Quite literally dressed for success Did you know that 96% of women in one study believed that what they wear affects how confident they feel? (source) It's not that hard to understand why: our clothing is the physical way we choose to…

816 1056 NEVER SKIP BRUNCH by Cara Newhart

Time for a pep talk. And not from some impressively shredded fitness guru — although we all applaud her discipline and passion — but from someone maybe a little more on your level. I published a guest post a while back on What kind of yoga is right for your body, and quite a few of you reached out to ask for my take on fitness. So, I've gathered you all here today for a little #fitspo pep talk to share some behind the scenes on my own fitness journey, plus give you some tips for staying motivated. Finding your Fitness inspo If you're like me, the word "fitness" makes you feel a little guilty, a little inadequate, and sometimes even a little insecure. I'm not in bad shape, but I know I have more to give. I know I could make the effort to take better care of my body and hit the gym just a little more often. Regardless of how I look, it has to do with the way I feel.  Fitness has been a weird journey for me — and a lot of other people might feel the same way. Having a weird relationship with fitness is pretty…

Podcast: Play in new windowSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | Google Podcasts | Stitcher | RSS | More everyone loves brunch Every time I meet someone new and we decide to make it official via swapping IG handles, mine gets a good reaction.  After typing in @neverskipbrunch to bring up my feed, there’s the inevitable, “What an awesome name,” “Oh my goodness I love that handle,” or “How did you come up with that, it’s amazing.” I always joke that I love snacks and sleeping in, and brunch lets me do both. While I don’t disagree that I’m pretty hilarious and my handle is indeed pretty witty, there’s something deeper going on here — it’s like we all love brunch. Seriously, brunch has gone from a hot weekend trend to a cultural staple in our society. With all the meals to meet for, coffee dates to have, or drinks to grab, why are there so many good feelings around brunch? Today, we dive into my favorite meal — and maybe yours — to discover the social phenomenon behind why we brunch.
