Girls Night In
Every once in a while you need a relaxing girls night in with some wine, chocolate-covered strawberries, and some good laughs. My favorite thing about a girl's night in is being able to talk and dive deep with no distractions. Of course, nights out are a blast, but there is just something about a comfy couch and a great view with plenty of wine and snacks that brings you closer. It let's you dig a little deeper and share a little more honestly.
"Friendship is seriously one of the most important thing's we've got."
I have to say, you wouldn't always have found me at a girls night. As a little bit of an introvert, it took me a little bit to understand just how important friendships are. Finding people to surround yourself with and do life with is so crazy essential.
You might not know it from the photos, but I had only met one of these girls (C.J. of @everydaychiffon) in real life before this night. Both Alyssa & Delayna were my 'close' instagram friends, but we had never actually met in real life. The funny thing about that was how fast we clicked. Everything was on the table, from hair extensions to plans for NYFW and trips we could take together to collab ideas and venting about frustrations.
"I guess that's the funny thing about my generation. We don't have to start from square one every time we meet someone because we already know so much about each other's lives through social media."
I think we hear a lot about how technology is an inhibitor of relationships. A scene with friends out to lunch together but all looking at their phones comes to mind. But the truth is, it's not always that way. I think for many of us, social media and the technology that supports it are a way to take care of a lot of the small talk beforehand. It then allows us to make our time in person a lot more meaningful. We can cut to the chase and dig deep because a lot of the niceties like " where are you from?" are already taken care of.
My good friend Katie put on this event. It started as just a simple idea, but she seriously did an amazing job making it a reality. Her idea was to bring bloggers together for a "Networking Shoot." She would be the photographer, and get brands to sponsor the event. Little did she know just how much it would mean.
I expected to connect with my insta friends in real life and have a fun-filled night of sipping some of my favorite wine. And it was that, but so much more. I've always believed that you know a true friend when you walk away from the conversation feeling energized and encouraged. Of course there is give and take: sometimes its their turn to pour their heart out and your job just to listen and advise when needed. I think if you leave most of your conversations together feeling recharged and ready to take on life, then you've got yourself a best friend.
Our conversations were just that. We shared our favorites, aired our frustrations, and left the night feeling fired up with heads spinning about all the new things we could accomplish in our lives, and with our blogs, but also all the ways in which we could collaborate together. I walked away from this night with three new blogger besties.
A Little Shoutout
You're probably wondering by now about some of the products that are featured in these photos. A few brands were gracious enough to sponsor us, and I have to give a little shout out to them for making this night possible. Who knows, without them I may have just stayed insta friends with these girls. We may never have exchanged numbers and we wouldn't be planning to take NYFW together.
The glasses you see are from Colorado Glasses. A local brand with a fun and fresh style, I could see myself wearing just about any pair they've got available. I'm a huge fan of the way their designs mix earthy wood tones with sleek frame elements and they've even a few pairs with some perfect pops of color.
Next up is my favorite local winery, Infinite Monkey Theorem. They were kind enough to gift us our wine supply for the evening. And yes, you saw it right...that is canned wine. Believe me, I don't think I'd trust it from anyone else but them. As a non-beer drinker I'm a huge fan of being able to ice down some cans of white right in the cooler for a little Oklahoma Football tailgating.
The adorable ribbons you see on the stem of our glasses are from Tie One On Wine Charms. They're too cute, can go right along with the theme of the night, and make a perfect little hostess gift.
About the Look
My one-shoulder bow top is from Banana Republic. It has time-honored light blue and white banker stripes and a classic one-shoulder silhouette which means it will outlast the off-shoulder trend that's sure not to still be center stage in summers to come. The dramatic, oversized bow is obviously the focal point of this piece but still feels graceful enough for everyday wear and not to Gaga-esque.
I paired this top with some white skinny jeans, which are a seasonless staple in my wardrobe. I love wearing them with bright summer colors for a beachy look or pairing with a classic flannel and some grey booties for a fall casual look. I believe the "No white after Labor Day" rule has lapsed and that its totally worth breaking...get you some.
My fun hot pink statement earrings are from Spare Drawer Designs, which is another amazing brand local to Denver. If you need an excuse to snag them, I should let you know that 10% of proceeds go to Joshua Station, a transformational housing program for homeless families here in Denver, Colorado.
